Adblu is a liquid that is part of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system fitted to some Diesel vehicles. The harmful gases produced by a diesel engine include nitrogen oxides which can cause respiratory and other problems. Selective Catalytic Reduction reduces the amount of nitrogen oxides emitted from from diesel engines.
AdBlu is a water based product comprising 63% Water and 37% Urea and is widely available is filling stations and other retail outlets. Some filling stations dispense it at a pump similar to a fuel pump.
But what does it do….?
The AdBlu liquid is stored in a tank usually under the vehicle and when the engine reaches working temperature the liquid is injected into the exhaust system. On contact with the hot exhaust the liquid vaporizes and this vapor then mixes with the harmful nitrogen oxides to form water. It does not eliminate all harmful emissions but plays a part in the reduction of the gases and particulates.
Can I top up my AdBlue myself?
How do I refill the AdBlue tank? You can refill the Adblue tank yourself. Typically, you’ll find an easily accessible AdBlue filler cap right next to the diesel filler cap. Simply unscrew the cap and pour in the AdBlue solution.
